Philip was trained
in the English Choral tradition, and studied piano, organ, voice, clarinet
and conducting at Trinity College of Music, London as an Exhibitioner. He
gained his degree in Education and Music at Durham University and his Fellowship
in conducting from the London College of Music at Thames Valley University.
Philip has been Director of Music at various public, prep and state schools
and is now, as a freelance musician - adjudicates, advises, performs, teaches
voice, piano and organ and conducts the Norwich Music group, Dolce and other
groups by invitation. As a Senior Examiner for the London College of Music,
Philip compiles and marks the Theory of Music papers (Prelim. - Grade 5);
has written the Diploma Singing syllabus; gives workshops and examines throughout
the UK and the World.
In September 2008 Philip Aldred was appointed the Chief Examiner of Music at the London College of Music.
